1)- The first way I want to discuss is about calories. To bulk or gain weight, you have to be in a calorie surplus. A calorie surplus is simply consuming more calories than you burn on a daily basis. This I very easy to do as long as you keep track of the calories you burn. If you go to google and type in “calorie burning tracker”- there are various options with various prices of things you can use to track the calories you burn everyday. Then you just have to read the ingredient label on the back of your food to determine how many calories are in your food. It’s a simple process that takes a little bit of effort but simple to understand. Now, one thing I can recommend to you is to try to put natural calories in your body not processed calories. So much of our food is tainted nowadays by companies who try to make food costs cheaper to increase their profits. Processed calories are absolutely terrible for kids and teenagers to eat. If you’re eating a bag of chips or fast food to get your calories in, you are consuming processed chemicals. That’s what they put in our food & on our food. And those chemicals can negatively effect energy levels, testosterone, your mental clarity and many other things. Now, the reason why this is important is because as an athlete we have to PERFORM. You have to get after it in the gym, get after it at practice and you have classes. You will not be able to accomplish all of that or at least do it efficiently with putting bad calories and processed calories in your body. What I recommend is eating single ingredient foods. Chicken, eggs, rice etc. If it has 20 ingredients that you have never heard of… probably not good for you.
2)- Next would be protein consumption. If you’re training hard in the gym to put on size- your muscles are going to be worn down. So eating a diet dense in protein is what you should try to focus on. Protein helps repair the micro tears in your muscles from working out. So I recommend consuming 1G of protein per pound of body weight. So if you weigh 150 and maybe want to get to 160… consume 160G of protein per day. As an athlete that can be hard and expensive. So I recommend supplementing with a protein shake everyday too.
