So, official visits are completely paid for by the school & unofficial visits are completely paid for by the athlete. There is a limited amount of official visits you can take (that rule actually may have changed just this past year- but there are limits to the amount you can take at one specific school) and there is an unlimited amount of unofficial visits you can take. You can be invited to the school, junior days etc. but you have to pay for everything. You can also be a kid with zero offers and get invited to “campus tours” or visits. It honestly doesn’t mean much. Usually it’s just for exposure for the school and money for the school if they charge for the tour. (These are the unofficial ones). Also it’s good exposure for the program because they have athletes take all of the photos in the uniforms etc. Now all of that is great & im sure it’s a lot of fun… but please don’t get discouraged if you see other guys going on visits and thinking that they are getting recruited from it. 99% of the time it is all BS. When you see a kid who is going on a visit and you think you might be better than him, work harder than him etc. just know ANYBODY, literally anybody can set up a visit. You just have to call the school and do it. If you are an underclassman (9th & 10th grade) you cannot contact the athletic department to set it up. It has to be through a coach invite or some kind of admissions office. And also you cannot talk about recruiting with coaches on the visit until you are a Junior. Weird rules, but that’s how it goes. Just make sure visits don’t discourage you. Again, what matters most is what you can do on the field.
