Most likely there will be 3 main events that will be covered at a combine. There might be 4, but these are the 3 you want to prepare for.

1)- 40yd dash2)- 5-10-5 pro shuttle3)- Broad Jump or Vertical Jump

We will be discussing some tips and things you can work on in this article to improve your times & scores for each one of these events. Let’s start with the 40. For the 40yd dash the most important aspect is the start. So many athletes just stand up out of their stance and try to run fast. That will cause you to hit the finish line NOT at top speed. Your body will gas out. And you want to hit the finish line at top speed. So focus on the first 10yds being POWERFUL. Take powerful and big strides and powerful arm swings to create energy to have your top speed propel you for the next 30yds. It’s almost like power will create the speed. Try to stay as low as you can and focus on driving.

For the 5-10-5 shuttle- best piece of advice I can give you is don’t focus on touching the line with your feet. You just have to touch with your hand. So your feet can stop almost a yard before the line and all you have to do is reach and touch with your hand. You’d be surprised how much time this can shave off your score.

For the vertical jump or broad jump, that’s all based on explosiveness. So if you are training for a combine and you know you will do that, work explosive movements in the gym. Box jumps, Olympic lifts or any type of plyometric training will help with this!
