How Freshman Can GAIN WEIGHT

There are two things that I feel freshman football players can focus on to gain weight.



1)- Staying in a calorie surplus. A calorie surplus is exactly how it sounds. You need to be consuming more calories than what you are burning on a day to day basis. So I recommend getting some type of calorie tracking tool. There are plenty on google & Amazon that you can look up. Some are expensive and some are cheaper than others. But you should wear that while you workout to figure out how many calories you are burning. Then the rest is easy. Look at the ingredient label of the foods you are consuming and be sure to consume more calories throughout the day than what your calorie tracking tool says you are burning. You should try to consume 20-40% more than your break even point daily.




2)- Protein consumption. As athletes we want to gain weight, but we want to remain athletic. If you dirty bulk and put on all of this fat, your athleticism is going to suffer. We want to be as big as possible but have as low body fat % as possible. So protein is the best way to do that. Protein repairs broken down muscle tissue you get from working out. When it repairs the tissue, that’s how you get bigger in the simplest of terms. It’s obviously not overnight but that is the process. So I recommend trying to consume 1G of protein per pound of desired body weight. If you weigh 160 and want to get to 170- you should consume 170G of protein per day.
