So the best piece of advice I ever got as a player was “having a high GPA can only help you, it won’t hurt you”. And that is nothing but the truth. You have to understand that not all of you will go to the NFL. Listen I’d like to sit here and say you all will, but from just a % standpoint it won’t happen. But that doesn’t mean all of you can’t get a better life from getting accepted into a great college from football. But certain colleges will only take you if you have a certain GPA. Everyone always says “oh I only need a 2.5”….. yeah that’s the case if you are a 5-Star. Not everyone is a 5 star. I would say the minimum for you would be a 3.2-3.5And yes I said minimum. I’ll tell you a story. Me personally, I knew I wasn’t going to be an NFL guy. I just wanted to get a scholarship and I didn’t want my parents to pay for my college education. Which I ultimately achieved. Before I had dreams of doing what I do now with First Down Training & the other businesses I own, I wanted to be a stock broker. Take over the world. And a school that was recruiting me pretty heavy was Yale. Yes Yale. If I got into that school, my life would be entirely different (believe me I’m glad I didn’t at this point). But still, I would have been able to achieve every goal I could’ve possibly had in the financial world with a degree from Yale. Just on connections alone. But there was one problem… I had a 3.5- they loved me, they loved my film but my grades weren’t good enough… so they told me I needed a perfect SAT or ACT score… that didn’t happen. So they went with this other QB who had a 4.0- and he went to our rival school. Reason why I tell this story is don’t let your grades be an issue. The higher the GPA- the more open doors you have . Especially nowadays with the new JUCO rule about getting 4 years of eligibility after the fact… grades are so important. Colleges are looking for a reason to not offer high school players.
