Best Positions For Freshman Based On Height & Weight

Below we will be discussing the best position you should play based on your height, weight and speed. This is a very common question that we get asked so we wanted to write an article to make sure you guys have your questions answered. I hope this can help!

Also, if you play WR and would like a 2 month daily workout schedule to follow, checkout the link below! We give you 8 weeks of field route running workouts (sets & reps/video examples included), 8 weeks of WR specific gym workouts (sets/reps/examples includes) and a 1 Month speed development workout plan to do. Check it out here ⬇️⬇️⬇️

So generally for freshman this is what I’d recommend. I’m going to leave the position Quarterback out of this discussion because honestly any size can play QB unless you are insanely undersized or over weight by a lot. So many other skills are required to play QB that you should worry about first before your height and weight.

5’5-5’8 (skinny side of things) (fast) - I recommend playing slot WR

5’8-6’0+ (skinny side of things) (fast)- I recommend playing outside WR

(Now if you fit the same criteria above, but can’t catch- I would say playing defensive back would be best.

5’5-5’9 (stalky side of things) (good athlete, not blazing fast) - I would recommend running back or linebacker

5’10-6’2+ (stalky side of things) (good athlete, not blazing fast)- I would recommend Tight End or maybe even defensive line.

5’8-5’10 (really heavy & not the fastest)- I recommend playing offensive guard or nose tackle

5’10-6’2+ (heavier side of things; taller than most and kind of athletic but not fast)- I would recommend offensive tackle

(If you fit the same profile as offensive tackle but you can move, I recommend Defensive end)
