So I would say the two most important things when it comes to a mouth guard is safety obviously and also being able to speak/being comfortable. So what I always recommend is a custom fitting mouth guard. Technology is so advanced nowadays that they can make some that will custom fit to your actual teeth a little bit smoother than what they used to do back when I played.
