1)- Understand that it is normal. If it’s your first time playing tackle football and you are concerned about contact. That’s totally normal. Trust me you will get over it. I didn’t play tackle football until my high school freshman season. I was a little worried at first but I had a trainer in the summer who would put me through passing drills and hit me as I threw the ball. Sometimes to the ground… not saying you have to do it but I definitely recommend it. Those were the hardest hits I took that year. So trust me when I say this, you will get over it. It just take a few hits.

2)- Keep your feet moving. I think the biggest hits I took when I was a player was when my feet stopped. I would get hit and my feet would stop, then another player would pop me and that’s what hurt the most. So my best advice to you new tackle players, when you get contact- keep your feet driving and moving. It doesn’t make it as bad.

3)- Please run low. This is what I struggled with the most my first year because I didn’t learn this growing up. But when I’d take off and run as a QB, I’d run with my chest straight up and head up. Now, luckily I was always a great athlete so guys didn’t get the best shots at me- but when I did get popped it was bad. And that happens. It happens to everyone. So make sure when you’re running the ball you have a slight forward lean like you are running with a sled, and tuck your chin down.
